Color

Test from Derek Johnson on Vimeo.

Here is some footage that was on the cutting room floor, I just put it all together. Some nice thai girl gave me a ride then took me to dinner. Only in Thailand would this happen. I love this country. I used this video to test out the black and white to color effect.

Lights

Lights from Derek Johnson on Vimeo.

After 2 days and 11 bike shops I found a bicycle that would fit me. So I decided to test it out in the madness of Bangkok's motor ways and busy downtown streets. Thai people are very pleasant and very generous to cyclists. I am planning out a long cycling trip. I am just having a hard time with immigration here in thailand. I am being forced to make a visa run soon.

Miss you guys.

cycling samui

Samui from Derek Johnson on Vimeo.

Went for a long bike ride around Koh Samui the other day. I had a blast. The island has some unforgiving hills to climb. All in all it was a very good time. I cycled to "Big Buddha" which is about 20km from my hostel in Lamai Beach. After that I went around the perimeter of the Island (another 30km) until I ended up where I started. It was nice to ride bicycle.

Fight from Derek Johnson on Vimeo.

I went to a muay thai boxing match in Koh Phangan. This was a huge deal here on the island. They had trucks driving around with loud speaker announcing the date and time of the fight. I went all out and got ring side tickets so I could get better footage. This was an intense experience. It was loud, hot, and bloody. I had a great time.

Time-lapse

today from Derek Johnson on Vimeo.

This is my attempt at trying to make a time-lapse. I know what to do next time so the next one I post should be stunning. I am in love in Koh Phangan. My english friend was suppose to come with me to Koh Samui but decided to stay a couple of more days. I can't blame him. This is a beautiful place. I must move on though. I can see why they call these islands a trap.

taking the dog for a walk

buffalo from Derek Johnson on Vimeo.

I was walking the beach today and came across some little boys walking a bloody buffalo. Supposedly these buffalos are dressed up with flowers and silk and put in front of each other. It is depicted on the Red Bull can. It is a festival where the buffalos do this little territorial dances to prove who is stronger. They call it bull fighting here but there is not any actual fighting.

They Red Bull here is sooooo strong. It is thick and non carbonated. It makes me feel horrible.
I just stick to coffee and coke.

I just can't get over the peaceful way of life Thai people live. I made friends with some of hotel staff and we drank saran coffee and ate fruit all day. They taught me some Thai and then they all took naps. No wonder they can't stop smiling.

Ferry from Derek Johnson on Vimeo.

Took a ferry to Koh Phangan (not Koh Phangon). I had just took an 20 hour train from bangkok then a 2 hours bus ride to the port. I was a little out of it. I love this country. I shot this video with my iPhone.

Bangkok

Bangkok is a tropical metropolis that is also one of the most traveller-friendly cities in Asia. It is only a few degrees from the equator. When I first got off the plane I could feel my self getting sweaty. Check in time for my hotel was not for 5 hours. So I decided to do some exploring. Right off I fell in love with this city. Everyone has warm smiles and eager to demonstrate their thai hospitality. I am going to the indian embassy today to get my visa then buy a sleeper train ticket to Ko Phangan. Ko Phangan is an island right off of the mainland. The ride will take a day and night.
